When R.A.D. meets the A-to-Z Challenge

So, I’m sitting down to work on my first A-to-Z challenge post and I realize that my writing style - and my brain's tendencies - make this whole alphabetical order thing the actual challenge for me. My brain wants me to write a post for each letter of the alphabet, but not in the expected order. So, in order for my brain to allow this to work, I am tweaking it slightly for me. My brain works in an apparently random order – yep, inside my mind is very much like an abstract piece of work (I won’t call it art, because that would be FAR too presumptuous) – and links things and concepts together that many might never associate with each other. That, actually, is where the R.A.D. of my title roots itself. R.A.D. stands for Random Abstract Disassociation. It’s a mental game I used to play with friends. One person starts the game off with a word – it can be a noun, a verb, a concept of some sort. The second person takes that word, then the mental paths begin. What word A makes her think of then connects to the next word that she associates with it, and her turn keeps going until she comes up with a final link in the mental chain, and then she says that word to the next person to continue the game. Person B does not have to explain how she got from Person A’s word to the word she gives as her word unless she is challenged by another player – or they seem so random or disassociated from the original word.

Example:
 Person A’s word: moon

Person B: Moon makes her think of Cheese which makes her think of Nachos. Nachos make her think of little league baseball games, which she associates with Ponytails from how she wore her hair while playing. Ponytails make her think of her My Little Pony figurines from elementary school, and the Clubhouse where she and her friends met for their My Little Pony club. Clubhouse makes her think of Ladders – she had to climb one to get into the clubhouse – which makes her think of the puppy that lived at her new house (where the clubhouse was located) when she and her family were looking at new houses. At her old house (the reason why they were looking at new houses) had bugs, and her least favorite bug is an Earwig.

Person B’s word to Person C: Earwig

Person C would then take Earwig and go on the same mental ramble until he or she found a word that seems completely unrelated to Earwig, but actually has a series of paths connecting it. The game was over when someone circled back to the original word, in this case Moon. So, why do you care about this game? Simply because you may be either bored out of your gourd, or want to know the theme of my blog entries this month. I shall be R.A.D-ding my blog posts this month. I will stick with the ABC order, but will have to have a series of links between the two. I may have links within blog posts, and therefore may end up covering a few different topics, depending on how my brain decides to work that day.

Feel like giving it a shot, and braving the depths of my brain? Welcome aboard! Let’s see what we can link together.

*Disclaimer: I make no promises that your sanity will maintain its current status should you make the choice to delve into my brain’s meanderings. I wish you luck, and if my mind gets lost again (if you find it), please give it crunchy peanut butter until I can get there.

 Many thanks,
 JBB
